Andrew van Leeuwen is an architect and architectural photographer based between Sweden and the Pacific Northwest.
He holds a Master of Architecture from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation (GSAPP), and a Bachelor of Arts & Sciences and a Bachelor of Architecture from Washington State University. His studies included time in Denmark and Germany, fostering an early engagement with Nordic and Central European design culture.
Andrew is a senior partner at BUILD LLC, where he has led the design of residential and commercial work for over two decades. In parallel, he documents architecture across Scandinavia and Europe, bringing a practitioner’s understanding of space, material, and construction to his photography.
He writes and conducts interviews for the BUILD Online Magazine, engaging leading architects, researchers, and designers on issues of circularity, regenerative practice, and the future of the built environment.
A frequent academic juror and visiting critic, Andrew contributes to architectural education through design reviews and public discourse, working across institutions in North America and Europe. His work operates at the intersection of practice, documentation, and critical inquiry.
