Tunnels & Snowsheds

A series of tunnels, snowsheds, and concrete retaining walls were constructed along Steven’s Pass in Washington’s Cascade Mountain Range as a response to the deadly 1910 Wellington avalanche.  These structures allowed safer passage of trains to the West Coast until the railway was abandoned in 1929.  These structural vestiges have since been connected via the Iron Goat Trail and can be experienced on foot.
